Deutsch: Angeregt durch die in George Gamows "Mr. Tompkins seltsame Reisen durch Kosmos und Mikrokosmos" dargestellten Szenen des auf einem Fahrrad durch eine Welt mit 30km/h Lichtgeschwindigkeit fahrenden Mr. Tompkins stellt dieses Bild dar, wie ein rollendes Rad "wirklich" aussieht. Das rote Rad hinten rechts ruht, das grüne hinten links rotiert stationär, so daß ein Punkt auf dem Mantel die Geschwindigkeit 0.93c hat und das blaue Rad vorne rollt mit 0.93c von links nach rechts durch die Szene. English: Relativistic rolling wheels. In his book "Mr. Tompkins in Wonderland" George Gamow describes the adventures of Mr. Tompkins in a fictitious world, in which the speed of light is only 30km/h. Motivated by the scene of Mr. Tompkins riding a bike along the street, this picture show what a relativistically rolling wheel "really" looks like.
The red wheel in the background is at rest, the green one is in stationary rotation (a point on the rim moves with a speed of 0.93c) and the blue one in the foreground is rolling at a speed of 0.93c from left to the right through the scene. The shadows are due to a light source which illuminates the scene from a great distance from behind and above. "Mr. Tompkins Harikalar Diyarında" adlı kitabında George Gamow, ışık hızının sadece saate 30 km olduğu kurgusal bir dünyada Mr. Tompkins'in maceralarını anlatmaktadır. Mr. Tompkins'in sokakta bir bisiklette gitmesinden esinlenilerek bu resimde relativistik hızda dönen bir tekerin "gerçekten" neye benzediği gösterilmektedir.
